Workshop 1:
November 2010
in association with Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield
The first event in the 6 month programme of 3 practical live art workshops took place at Lawrence Batley Theatre in November 2010. Led by experienced solo cross-disciplinary artist Sarah Spanton, the workshop was attended by over 20 artists from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. The workshops were designed to help participants develop their personal performance practice, explore a range of approaches and techniques, and meet and work with other practitioners.
Images from the workshop can be seen on the Compass Flickr Archive.
Here are some quotes from participants:
“Really great atmosphere, explanation of activities and overall delivery”
“Introduced me to new ways of developing an idea / concept into something more – that can be changed and developed”
“Elements of the workshop will support my development of upcoming projects... Particularly the physicalisation of simple ideas”
“It has been a really positive outcome for me with just exploring again and finding myself and bad habits”
“It was a very stimulating and enjoyable day. I especially enjoyed the diverse mix of ages and genders and experiences”
“It has consolidated work I have done previously”
“[The workshop has] given me greater confidence in incorporating performance into my artistic practice”
“I already have a dialogue running with other members of the workshop to further explore relationships built over the day. It was also useful to speak with more established artists about their practice”
“I thought it was led really well – creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere”
“Found it all very useful and refreshing”
