Invisible Flock join Compass

In February, we announced the call out for our artist-led professional development programme and invited artists from all over the north of England to pitch ideas which would provide support and opportunities for regional artists, whilst drawing heavily on the concerns of their own practice.

We had a host of brilliant, insightful applications from artists, collaborations and companies from all over the north of England, proving to us that there is a demand, need and interest in a long-term, artist-led professional development strand within our programme.

We're thrilled to announce that the first artists to lead this brand new strand of our programme will be Leeds-based Invisible Flock. Their series of events and initiatives will investigate themes of participation in live art, beginning in April and running until March 2016.

We expect to run an event with Invisible Flock every couple of months throughout the year, including a residential retreat. There will also be some formal mentoring opportunities led by the company and a digital presence for the programme.

"We are thrilled and honoured to be given this opportunity to open such an innovative programme and are excited about the prospect of starting the year of activities ahead. Our aim is to create dialogue and debate through an online platform, workshops, curated feasts, public events and residential retreats. Bringing together practitioners to explore themes around our risks, responsibilities and opporunities as makers within live art, unpicking contemporary participatory practice and facilitating open conversations."

"This spring the Compass regional artist development programme makes a step change. For the next three years we will invite a different artist to propose a programme that serves their own research needs while offering a series of events and activities to support live artists in Yorkshire and the north. We received some exceptional proposals and are delighted to announce we have selected Invisible Flock as this year's artists. Look out for a full programme investigating participatory practice and mentoring opportunities and much more. "
