Call Out for Child Guides for Playing Up!

Playing Up! is a public play-in is an energetic and enjoyable game that involves kids and their adults working together as a team to complete activities and tasks to create their own work of Live Art. Activities last between 20 and 60 minutes and players can choose to do one or all of the artworks available throughout the duration of the event.

The game is  based on a pack of cards, each one carrying information about a well know artist and an instruction of a game to play based on that artist's work. For example, people can make clothes out of food, remote control their parents, build magical what-happens-next-machines or sit in a bag like John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The games were created by children working with a German artist called Sybille Peters and Live art Development Agency. Full details of the game called Playing Up can be seen here.

Participants are shown around the game by Child Guides and we would love to hear from potential Child Guides in Leeds who would be available to play the game, first of all, and get to know how it works then be shown how to help instruct others to play the game.  This happens on Saturday 12th November. 10am – 3pm. at House 14, Queen Square, Leeds Beckett University, LS1 3HE

Then on the following Saturday, 19th November, The Child Guides will be at Leeds City Museum, Brodrick Hall (the big circular arena in the museum) when Playing Up will be open to the public from 11am – 4pm.

Compass are seeking people between the ages of 10 – 14 who are outgoing and confident and can see themselves instructing other children and adults in how to play Playing Up. The rehearsal and public play-in will be supervised by two DBS checked artists, Ansuman Biswas and Lily Craig, as well as a group of adult stewards and helpers.

Parents or carers of potential Child Guides should please contact [email protected] with the heading PLAYING UP.
