Compass Festival gains charity status and new members of the team

Compass Festival has recently been granted charitable status (UK Charity Registration no. 1177590). As we continue to grow and develop, registering as a charity has allowed us to further clarify our core mission to provide exciting live art experiences to all who engage in the festival. It also provides an added layer of infrastructure to ensure our work is rigorous and considered, and opens up new avenues of fundraising for our projects.

As we prepare this year’s festival, we’re pleased to welcome new members of the team, Anna Turzynski and Rosie Parsons. We have also been joined by two new trustees, Marie Millward and Ellie Andrews, who bring a wealth of experience to the board.

Anna Turzynski is an independent arts producer living and working in Leeds, and joins the team as Assistant Producer. Anna took part in the first edition of Compass Young Producers scheme in 2014, and was involved in the planning and delivery of the 2016 festival. In addition to her role at Compass, Anna has worked for David Shearing, Unlimited, Ellie Harrison and Riptide. Her expertise lies in site-specific, interactive and unconventional performance work.

Rosie Parsons joins Compass Festival as our Admin and Communications Manager. Rosie has a background in communications and administration for arts and education, and brings a range of skills in digital media production.

Marie Millward is an experienced project manager with a history of working in the environmental, community and arts sectors. Marie worked with Compass on the 2016 festival, and is now the project manager for Ignite Yorkshire, a four-year project connecting young people's voice and interests with Yorkshire's industrial heritage and canals.

Ellie Andrews is the owner of Cafe 164 and the Gallery at Munro House, which holds monthly art exhibitions and a programme of events. She has a background in theatre design and is also a trustee of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis charity.

Dates for this year’s Compass Festival will be announced in June 2018.
